About Snowsports Mayrhofen
Snowsports Mayrhofen is located in the centre of Mayrhofen and uses the Penken ski area. Our ski lessons start at the top of the Penkenbahn at the mountain station.
We also have our own ski rental in Mayrhofen, which makes it easy to combine ski lessons and equipment. The address is Tuxerstrasse 714.
Our ski lessons start at the top of the Penkenbahn, at the mountain station. The meeting point is at our yellow ski school hut.
From the centre of Mayrhofen you can easily reach the starting point with the Penkenbahn. The Penkenbahn is centrally located in Mayrhofen and easy to reach from the village. Once you arrive at the mountain station, follow the signs to the Snowsports Mayrhofen meeting point.
We recommend allowing plenty of time for the gondola ride, so everyone can start the lesson relaxed.
The ride on the Penkenbahn takes about 15 minutes.
Also allow for possible waiting time at the lift, especially during busy holiday periods.
Group lessons: we recommend arriving 30 minutes beforehand on your first ski day. This is because of the pre-ski assessment. After that, please arrive 15 minutes beforehand.
Private lessons: 5 minutes beforehand.
Make sure you already have your equipment when you arrive at the lesson.
This depends on the location of your accommodation.
Most guests travel via the centre of Mayrhofen to the Penkenbahn and take the gondola from there to the meeting point. Contact your host, or Snowsports Mayrhofen at +43 660 23 770 74. We're happy to help you figure it out.
Mayrhofen has public transport that connects many accommodations with the centre and the ski lifts.

Our ski instructors speak several languages, including:
• Dutch
• German
• English
You can indicate a language preference when booking. We can never guarantee this preference.
Yes, Snowsports Mayrhofen regularly works with Dutch-speaking ski instructors. This makes our ski school a great choice for Dutch and Belgian families who would like their children to be taught in their own language. Lessons are also available in other languages.
Whether a Dutch-speaking instructor is available at your time depends on the schedule and the period. Please indicate when booking that you prefer Dutch instruction. We do our best to assign a Dutch instructor, but can never guarantee this 100%.
For children's group lessons, however, we do have a 100% Dutch instructor guarantee.
During busy holiday periods we work with a larger team, so Dutch-speaking ski instructors are regularly available.
We recommend booking early if a specific language is important to you.
During the spring break too, Dutch-speaking ski instructors are regularly present.
Because availability differs per season and week, we recommend stating your preferred language when you make your reservation.
Yes, when booking you can indicate which language you prefer.

In some cases we make an exception from around 4.5 years old.

Yes.
Many participants choose several consecutive days to make progress faster.
We recommend taking your lesson days consecutively. Our lessons follow a clear learning pathway that builds up step by step. If you miss a day, you may fall behind your group. Consecutive days also usually give the best learning results.
Would you rather have lessons every other day? Then we recommend private lessons.
Yes, when there is availability. Discuss this with your instructor before or after your lesson. If you already know earlier, please contact us via WhatsApp: +43 660 23 770 74.
Many guests decide during their holiday to take extra lesson days.
In group lessons we always do a 'pre-ski' to make sure everyone is placed in the right group. Groups are divided based on:
– age
– experience
– skiing technique
– language (where possible)
The aim is for every participant to end up in a suitable group.
No.
Age is important, but level and experience also play a big role.
A child of the same age can, for example, have a different ski level.
When booking, you can indicate your experience.
If you're unsure, we're happy to help you choose the right group.
We understand that this level is an indication, which is why we always do a 'pre-ski' in group lessons. In private lessons the instructor will always talk to you first to determine your level and will never start on a slope that is too difficult. We believe a calm build-up is important for an enjoyable lesson experience.
Our instructors assess during the first lessons whether the group is suitable.
We understand that the level you indicated is an indication.
Yes, if the level is not a good fit.
The ski instructor and the ski school will look together at the best solution.
Yes, when their age and level are sufficiently similar. We can never guarantee this in advance, because it may turn out on site that the levels are too far apart.
No. Children aged 13 and older join the adult group lessons, while children younger than 13 join a children's group.
Children and adults learn in different ways, so taking lessons together is not recommended.
Group size depends on:
• period
• level
• age
• availability
We aim for groups in which every participant receives enough attention. We therefore generally work with a maximum of 12 people. This may differ when the instructor is experienced enough and it works out better in terms of level.
Our instructors make sure every child receives guidance that suits their level.
For young children or participants who need extra attention, a private lesson can be an alternative.
When a group is too small, the ski school may adapt the lesson or offer an alternative.
This could, for example, be an adjusted lesson format.
Private ski lessons
A private lesson offers maximum personal attention.
The ski instructor can fully tailor the lesson to:
• level
• pace
• personal goals
• learning preferences
Private lessons are suitable for:
– complete beginners
– children
– families
– adults
– advanced skiers
We also offer options for people who need extra attention, such as children with a disability or certain forms of autism. Please contact us about this at info@snowsportsmayrhofen.com so we can look at the possibilities.

– period

You can find the current prices on our website under private lessons.

The exact times and options depend on availability.
Private lessons are available at various times throughout the day.

Private lessons are suitable for individuals, families and small groups.
The maximum number of participants depends on the chosen lesson and the difference in level within the group.
Yes. Private lessons are popular with families who want to learn to ski together, including with multiple family members. The ski instructor can adapt the lesson to different ages and wishes. Please note that young children (under 11) and adults learn very differently, so we advise against this when there are big differences in age and level.
No. We advise against this because of different learning curves.
That is possible when the difference is not too big.
Discuss the experience of all participants in advance so that the lesson can be properly tailored.
This is always our aim. Only in exceptional cases is it not possible. As a guest, you can always ask for a different instructor during multi-day private lessons.

We do have a 100% Dutch instructor guarantee for children's group lessons.
Yes.
We also offer private lessons in English.
Our lessons normally start at the agreed meeting points.
Discuss any specific wishes with the ski school in advance. This time will be deducted from your lesson time.
That depends on the goal.
Two hours can be suitable for an introduction or targeted improvement. For bigger steps or more participants, many people choose longer lessons or multiple days.
A longer lesson gives more time for explanation, practice and repetition.
Which length suits best depends on level, fitness and goal.

Booking & reservations

This applies especially during busy periods such as:
– Christmas holidays
– February holidays
– school holidays
Popular times and private lessons can fill up quickly.
During busy holiday periods, availability can be limited.
Private lessons and popular children's lessons in particular are often booked early.
We always advise against this. You then have no certainty of getting the lesson you want.
During quiet periods this may be possible, but booking in advance avoids disappointment.
Changes are possible, depending on availability (of groups and instructors) and the applicable conditions. Up to 8 days in advance this is no problem at all.
Contact us as soon as possible if you want to change something. WhatsApp: +43 660 23 770 74.
We always try to help out when plans change.
Yes.
Many beginners choose to first take one day of lessons and then add extra days when there is availability.
It may then be the case that the time you want for the following day is already booked, but we always look at the options together on site. If you already know for sure that you want to book several days, we do recommend doing so.
Cancellations & changes
Yes, cancelling is possible according to the applicable conditions. Up to 8 days in advance this is no problem at all. After that, we are happy to look at the options together.

Practical preparation
Bring:
• ski equipment
• ski pass
• helmet
• gloves
• warm ski clothing
• ski goggles or sunglasses
• sunscreen
Good ski clothing consists of:
• thermal underwear
• a warm mid-layer
• waterproof ski jacket and trousers
• gloves
• warm socks
• Bring a backpack so you can store extra layers in it when it is colder or warmer than expected
Good ski socks help keep your feet warm and comfortable.
Avoid thick woollen socks or socks that are too big, as these can hurt your feet through friction.
Ski goggles are recommended because they protect against snow, wind and sun. Otherwise, we recommend sunglasses. Your eyes can get burned by the high UV and white snow.
A ski depot can be handy so that you don't have to carry your equipment every day. It is located at the Penkenbahn.
In Mayrhofen you can park at the Ahornbahn, which is a 5-minute walk from the Penkenbahn.
In busy weeks we recommend using the buses that Mayrhofen offers. This is very well organised and a more sustainable option.
The price depends on the type of lesson:
• group lesson
• private lesson
• number of days
• period
Check the current prices on our booking page.
A private lesson offers maximum personal attention and can be interesting for beginners, families and skiers who want to improve their technique in a targeted way.
Also when you are, for example, just coming back from an injury or dealing with fears, a private lesson is the way to get lessons at your own pace.
Allow enough time for equipment rental, the lift and the first contact with the ski school.
Choose lessons that suit the children's age and experience, and make sure they have good clothing and equipment.
Yes.
Many ski schools work internationally and, besides language, also rely heavily on practical explanations and demonstration.
